Obituary: Henry A. Schaffner

Henry A. Schaffner, born Sep. 24, 1921, in Calexico, Calif., to Emil and Marie Schaffner, passed away on Nov. 12, 2012. Henry graduated from Holtville High School in 1939 and attended UC Davis. Henry and Charlotte married at the Mission Inn, in Riverside, Calif., on Feb. 15, 1945. Henry was a dairy farmer for over 30 years while Charlotte was an elementary school teacher. Their farm was located 30 miles south of San Diego near the Mexican border. Henry and Charlotte retired from farming and moved to Lake Tahoe, Nev. in 1976. Henry, a resident of Minden since 1998, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Henry was charming and quick to laugh, he enjoyed working on the ranch, making sausage, Swiss music, and being warm.

Henry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Charlotte; and his sisters, Susanna Oister and Elisabeth Lanier. Henry was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy and Fred. Henry is survived by his son, Henry and daughter-in law, Susan; his daughter, Kathleen Hone and son-in-law, Douglas Hone; his daughter, Lori Martel and son-in-law, Thomas Martel; his daughter, Trudi Morey and son-in law, James Morey; grandchildren: Julia and Chris Bonafede, Charles and Vicki Hone, Jason and Karolina Morey, Jenna and Steven Peck, Kristin and Robert Collin, Carrie and David Baker, Benjamin and Kristen Martel, Sarah and James Lee and David Martel; great-grandchildren: Grace, Luke and Noah Bonafede, Emily and Amanda Hone, Ella, Dylan and Liv Morey, Hadley and Mason Peck, Londyn and Presley Collin, Samuel, Elizabeth and Katherine Baker, and Micah Martel.

The life of Henry A. Schaffner, 91, will be celebrated at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. Henry will be placed to rest at East Valley Memorial Park in Minden, Nev.
