Ski instructor dies in skiing accident

TAHOE CITY — Alpine Meadows Ski Resort is mourning the loss of one its own. Annalise Kjolhede, 24, a ski instructor with the resort’s Kids Ski School, died Tuesday evening, following a skiing accident at Alpine on Saturday a resort spokesperson said.Kjolhede suffered serious head and neck injuries after falling and hitting a submerged rock near Wolverine Bowl while skiing with friends that day, the spokesperson said.She was wearing a helmet.Despite the resort not being open for the season, Alpine Meadows ski patrol members, along with members of the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, were on site that day for preseason training when they received a 911 call reporting the accident. Ski patrol mobilized a Snowcat and was on the scene 25 minutes later, according to a press release.Kjolhede, a New York native, was transported to the base of the mountain where she was air lifted by CareFlight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. She died there Tuesday due to her injuries.“Though she was part of our team but one season, Annalise was a valued member of Alpine Meadow’s Kids Ski School,” according to a resort statement. “Her outgoing personality, passion for working with kids and friendly nature will be remembered and missed by all of her friends and colleagues here at Squaw and Alpine. Her passing is a tragic loss for our team and community.”At this time there are no plans by the resort to hold a memorial service.
