Obituary: Lillian Jane Lohmeyer

Lillian suffered from an assortment of medical problems for the past several years. In the face of those problems she maintained a cheery attitude. She was an inspiration to younger people, including her family members and her friends. Although bedridden, she ran her affairs, her household and made health care decisions until a short time before her death on her 95th birthday in September. She read for hours every day, and she had a love for the English language.

Lillian was born in Bakersfield, Calif. When she was about sixteen years old, she convinced her parents to move to Los Angeles where she attended Los Angeles High School, then UCLA. She was married to Weston Kreck when she was only eighteen years old.

When she was twenty three, she started having boys, Douglas, Steven and Jeffrey Kreck (all long time Carson City residents) and also Terry, who died in infancy. Family activities included skiing, camping, racing across deserts in the family station wagon and looking for lost dogs. Lillian planned and created a beautiful garden. She managed to defend the garden from the boys and the dogs.

In the sixties she was divorced, and she married Walter Lohmeyer, an engineer at Douglas Aircraft. They bought a nice house in Huntington Beach, Calif, where Lillian continued her lifelong gardening activity. She unexpectedly received an award as the Los Angeles Times Gardener of the Year.

In her early sixties she took flying lessons and became a licensed airplane pilot. She and her pilot husband took many trips in their airplane, as well as a number of tours to destinations around the world.

After the death of Walter she moved to Carson City. She purchased a home near the Empire Golf Course. Her final years were spent enjoying her Carson City life. We will miss her.
