Eleven northern Nevada companies and a state agency were recognized last week in the first-ever "Existing Industry Awards" sponsored by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.
The awards recognize primary employers who made significant contributions to the community, including expanded employment and facilities.
Forty companies were nominated for the awards, which are part of EDAWN's effort to spur job growth among existing employers as part of its economic development strategy.
Jimmy Beans Wool was recognized as Company of the Year among small employers, and Urban Outfitters was recognized as Company of the Year among large employers.
Recognized for capital investment were Applied Soil and Water Technologies among small employers and NOW Foods among large employers.
Lambertson Industries was recognized for its significant expansion as a small employer, while Rice Lakes Weighing Systems' expansion in Fernley was recognized among large employers.
Patagonia was honored for its work to reduce its carbon footprint.
LUX Dynamics was recognized for its accomplishments in thinking local as it seeks vendors, and U.S. Ordnance was honored among large companies that think local.
The Glenn Group was honored for corporate citizenship among small employers, while Intuit won the honor for large employers.
Nevada JobConnect was honored as EDAWN's Community Partner of the Year.
