Council awards grants to state artists

The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday that it has awarded $9,148 to 10 Nevada artists or art-related organizations or institutions, five of them in Northern Nevada.Awarded $1,000 each were the University of Nevada, Reno Art Department and Christina Camarena of Reno.The former is to support publicity and visiting artist travel in connection with “Prospectives ’12 International Festival of Digital Art.” The latter is to support creation of a literary journal featuring writings from detainees at Jan Evans Detention Center.The council awarded $853 to Dean Burton of Reno to support the printing of photographs for an exhibition in Sacramento, Calif.It awarded $700 to Joseph Galata of Reno to present an original performance project and workshop at the NYC World International Conference. Matt Dodge of Incline Village receives an award of $595 to support framing of new works for an exhibit at the University of Phoenix Gallery.In Las Vegas, the following awards of $1,000 each were made:To Diane (Bush) Olson-Baskin to support a performance art project; to the Southern Nevada Handweavers and Spinners Guild to support an artist residency; to Dr. Nolan Stolz to support school residencies related to music; to Markus Tracy to support five site-specific projects, and to Jevijoe Vitug to support a painting exhibition.
