Manufacturer of hangar doors moving to Mound House

D.P. Industries Inc., a manufacturer of doors for aircraft hangars, is moving its production facilities to Mound House.

The company, which has made doors for aircraft hangars for military and other applications since 1983, currently is located in Paso Robles, Calif.

D.P. Industries expects to employ about 25 people in northern Nevada, says David Paine, president and chief executive officer of the company.

"The local planning people here don't want this type of business any more," said Paine in explaining the company's decision to relocate. "They don't favor people making steel things any more."

The company paid $825,000 to purchase a 38,5000-square-foot industrial facility on 4.7 acres at 16 Kit Kat Drive in Mound House this month.

Brad Bonkowski of Coldwell Banker Commercial represented both the buyer and the seller, and Northern Nevada Development Authority helped facilitate the company's decision.

Paine said last week that the availability of reasonably priced real estate was a primary factor in the decision of D.P. Industries to move to Mound House.

He said the company expects to begin transitioning its manufacturing operations to northern Nevada during the next few months.

Workers at the facility will include welders and operators of computer-controlled lathes and cutting equipment.

Because the company works primarily with military customers, Paine said D.P. Industries escaped most of the effects of the recession.

The company is qualified as a veteran-owned small business for bidding on Department of Defense contracts.

Along with big sliding, swinging and vertical doors for aircraft hangars, the company makes mobile protective structures some of them as much as 85 feet tall and 110 feet wide.

"The difficult we do daily," the company's slogan reads. "The impossible is our specialty."
