Johnson named to Gaming Control Board

(Nevada Appeal Capitol Bureau) —Veteran state administrator Terry Johnson has been appointed to the Nevada Gaming Control board.Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday announced the appointment to the three-person professional board that manages the oversight and regulatory apparatus governing Nevada’s gaming industry.“Terry’s strategic leadership and innovative thinking has helped him effectively operate one of the more complex departments in state government,” said Sandoval adding that Johnson’s background is a strong foundation for this post.Johnson is currently director of the state’s Department of Business and Industry, which includes 14 regulatory agencies overseeing a wide variety of industries from insurance and financial institutions to boxing. Prior to that, he was first assistant director then director of the Nevada department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation from 2004-2007.In between those two posts, he was assistant director for the Clark County District Attorney’s office.He is also a former state labor commissioner and from 2001-2007 served as chairman of the Public Employee Benefits Program board.He moves to gaming control effective Nov. 12.
