Sexual conduct charges brought against former Carson High teacher

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a former Carson High School teacher who allegedly had sexual conduct with a 17-year-old student. The District Attorney's office brought the charges after an investigation was started in September of last year. The criminal complaint accuses Jennifer Dalton, 35, with sexual conduct between an employee of a school and a pupil. It carries a penalty of 1-5 years in prison, and a fine up to $10,000.As of Tuesday night, Dalton had not yet been arrested.Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes said Dalton is no longer employed by the district. She resigned for personal reasons on Nov. 7, 2011, Stokes said.Stokes said Dalton had been on administrative leave with pay since Sept. 1, 2011.“As soon as we had some inkling there was a problem, we did a brief investigation,” Stokes said. The sheriff's office was called to the school on Aug. 31, 2011, and Dalton was escorted off school grounds, Sheriff Ken Furlong said in Nevada Appeal article in September of last year.“There was an awful lot of forensic evidence,” that needed evaluation, Furlong said Tuesday. Once the evidence had been processed and the investigation completed, it was sent to the District Attorney's office.“The school district has worked with us hand in hand over the totality of the investigation,” he said.
