A Carson City Sheriff's officer was sent to the hospital Friday night with an apparent broken hand after an incident with a man whom officers were trying to arrest, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

According to Furlong, two officers attempted to make contact with a man who was "yelling and throwing things," on Lee Street at about 5:25 p.m. Friday.

Furlong said the two officers called for backup, and two more deputies came. In the end, it took seven deputies to get the alleged assailant into handcuffs, he said.

"It started with two, turned into four and the four couldn't subdue him and they called for help," Furlong said.

While in handcuffs, the man "was still willing to go further (with the fight)," Furlong said, before the man was given sedatives.

"He had an unbelievable amount of strength," Furlong said. "He was subdued with medication (sedatives)."

The altercation started at Lee Street and moved to Roop and Long streets. Roop was closed at Long Street for about 30 minutes.

The alleged assailant was sent to the hospital to be checked out. The incident remains under investigation.
