Community Sports: Ex-Carson High athletes host fundraiser for baby

Owen Brolsma and Ally Davis were well-known athletes at Carson High, and now they need your help.The young couple gave birth to a boy, Brooks, who was born with a congenital heart disease seen in one in 120 babies. Brooks, who was born three weeks early, also was born with Patent Ductus Arteriosus. Brooks had his first surgery when he was just 2 weeks old, and he was put on a ventilator to get much-needed oxygen.Brooks spent a month on the ventilator and now has a tube in his nose to help him breathe. However, Brooks’ nose was too small for the tubing to work properly, so he needed a tracheostemy.There are a few more surgeries on the way, and the young couple has a stack of medical bills facing them.There is a golf tournament scheduled for Oct. 7 at 8:30 a.m. at Empire Ranch Golf Course. Jim Arens won Flight C with a 72, four strokes better than Gerry Bing and John Cary.Carson Tennis Club hosts weekend eventThe Carson Tennis Club is hosting a tournament Saturday and Sunday at Centennial Park.The group is especially seeking women’s C players, women’s A & B doubles and mixed A doubles. Hamman finished with a 130, nine shots better than Tona Smith and 10 better than Pat Lantis.Sawyer foursome wins at ArrowcreekTom Sawyer, Marshall McCurdy, Henry Teague and David Knighton won the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club four-man scramble at Arrowcreek recently.Rich Bremenour, Fred Olesek, Steve Ballard and Dick Blankenship finished second, while Jim Barnett, Paul Seaman, Wes Franklin and Verne Rosse were third.Paulson, Morse spark CMS Abbey Paulson and Katelyn Morse scored eight points each to lead Carson Middle Schools 7th-grade basketball team to a 33-16 win over Pau-Wa-Lu recently.Abby Pradere chipped in six points in the victory.Carson Pop Warner squad triumphsThe Carson Unlimited Pop Warner team came out on top in its season opener 30-0 against Fallon on Saturday night.Dennis Krueger scored twice for Carson while Johnny Cavilia, Sevon Mandoki and Justin Lopez each scored a touchdown in the win.Carson’s defense held the Greenwave on the opening drive with a goal line stand led by Conner Larkin, Jarod Butler and Michael Gould.Carson plays its home opener Saturday against Douglas at 3 p.m. at Governors Field. The Unlimited team is made up of 11 to 14 year olds, 105 pounds and up.
