The Carson City Sheriff's Office secures the scene of the missing man's vehicle Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office seeks the public’s help in finding a missing and possibly endangered Carson City man.

Foul play is suspected in the case of the missing William McCune, 62. McCune is employed with the state and has been listed as a missing and endangered person. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches and bald, with blue eyes. Co-workers called the sheriff’s office Thursday after McCune failed to board a plane for a business trip with a co-worker, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. They’d knocked on his apartment door the previous day and received no reply, although his car was parked in front of the Villas of Dolphin Bay Apartments in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive.

When his travel partner called their boss Thursday morning to report McCune was not on the flight, other co-workers again came to his apartment. This time, his vehicle was gone, and they called police. The vehicle was later found at an adjacent apartment complex.

The first deputy on scene found clear signs of a struggle in the apartment and called for detectives, according to Furlong.

The sheriff’s office found signs of a physical altercation. Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger was called, and a search warrant for the man’s apartment was being requested Thursday afternoon.

“We’re treating it as foul play,” Capt. Ken Sandage said. “The sheriff’s office is taking every precaution and will collect biological evidence, including blood, that would be otherwise lost in its current form.”

McCune’s second vehicle, a 2000 maroon Dodge Dakota pickup with tinted windows and the license plate 769XTL, has not been found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Investigation Division at 775-283-7851 or the Communications Center at 775-887-2013.
