No alcohol offenses found at checkpoint

No alcohol-related offences were found during Friday night’s compliance checkpoint on U.S. Highway 50 near the Carson City-Lyon County line.

The checkpoint was held by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Of the 1,741 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint, a total of 13 citations were issued for various vehicle and drivers license violations.

According to a press release, due to an unusual high number of motorists driving on Highway 50 during the time the checkpoint was in operation, there was a longer then normal delay for drivers however, the majority of comments made by individuals who went through was positive and supportive of law enforcements efforts to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities on this roadway.

“It is a rare occurrence for a checkpoint not to encounter a DUI related arrest,” said Sheriff Ken Furlong. “This checkpoint was a strong early indicator of success.”
