CPAs’ breakup creates two firms

Partners at Kohn Colodny LLP in Carson City and Reno have dissolved the 15 year-old accounting firm to form two new practices.

As of Aug. 1, Beth Kohn-Cole, Connie Christianson and Beth Farley are partners in Kohn & Company LLP in Reno while Brian Colodny and Scott Fields now practice as Colodny Fields LLP out of the previous firm’s Carson City office and a new location on Double Diamond Parkway in Reno.

Both former name partners say the decision to split up the firm was mutual and amicable and will not affect clients.

“All our clients will stay with us and the clients (Kohn & Company) worked with will stay with them,” says Colodny.

“It will be a seamless transition with the same people doing the same job from the same office,” says Kohn-Cole. “There will be little to no impact on clients, other than the name changes.”

Kohn-Cole says the two offices of the former practice were autonomous and had different specialties, which will continue in the new entities. Kohn & Company focuses on tax, audit and arbitration, she says, while Colodny Fields specializes in tax and bookkeeping.

“It was a mutual decision to break up and I think everyone has a lot of bright promise because of it,” says Colodny.
