VIRGINIA CITY (AP) — The final chapter of the Mark Twain Bookstore in historic Virginia City is coming to an end.

Owners Joe and Ellie Curtis say the store, which specializes in Mark Twain writings as well as out-of-print books, manuscripts and photographs from the Comstock era and western history, will close after Labor Day.

The bookstore also carried a variety of children’s books reprinted from the 1800s and early 1900s.

The Curtises have run the bookstore on C Street for more than 20 years, but they say it’s time to retire.

They recently sold the building built in 1862 that the family has occupied for 55 years.
