Talking heads don’t bother with the truth
Mr. Don Gurney is a FOX viewer, I’d assume, because Betsy McCaughey, a vociferous opponent of the Affordable Care Act, is often seen on that network. I suggest anyone with a computer to Google her and read some of the articles discussing her false statements.
There is absolutely no truth to the statement that Medicare services to seniors will be cut. In fact, some services will be increased such as yearly medical check-ups which do not detract from other services in any way. If one wants to read the entire act, you can read it online. It is long and not easy reading, but I have gone online and read some of the sections others have claimed hurt seniors and found their information totally false.
If you don’t have a computer, go to the library. You can even get help researching for yourself. If you have the time and interest in the truth, read it instead of depending on others, including the “talking heads” on all of the networks.

Obey laws and use some common sense
This past year has been a tumultuous one at best. Just about every page of the newspaper, every channel on television, and the Internet are chock-full of stories of violence and mayhem. No one seems to have that one “magic answer” that can end all of society’s troubles. However, we can all make life easier for each other if we just put forward a little effort and understanding. As you know, Nevada has had a bad year regarding vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian accidents. Fatalities, physical harm, and property damage are unnecessary. If we start locally and use common sense while driving, biking, and walking, it would go a long way to ease the stress of everyday life.
Our laws are basically there for a good reason and as a guide, but there is no substitute for using good judgment coupled with a sense of compassion for our neighbors, friends, and visitors. Obey the law, don’t drink and drive, and certainly be “user friendly” as you proceed on the highway of life. Best wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year!
