Contest deadline nears for year of tuition

The deadline is nearing for a chance to win a year of free college tuition.

State Treasurer Kate Marshall and the Nevada College Savings Plans board are offering the contest for Nevada residents who purchase a prepaid tuition contract before Dec. 31.

Each entry received will be entered into a random drawing to win a year of tuition for their beneficiary. One winner will be selected from both northern and southern Nevada.

The 2014 enrollment period began Dec. 1 and runs through the end of February. The prepaid tuition program allows parents, grandparents or other family members to lock in future college tuition rates at today’s prices.

Newborns to children in ninth grade are eligible. Purchased credits can be used at higher education institutions both in and out of state.
