Carson City and Washoe County awarded health grants for sharing

Carson City Health and Human Services and the Washoe County Health District are receiving $125,000 each to explore “cross-jurisdictional sharing” and promote health.The two-year grant awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation came with a goal of helping the health units fulfill their missions to protect and promote health in Nevada.“Collaborating on cross-jurisdictional sharing efforts will strengthen relationships in order to develop public health infrastructure models that can be used across Nevada,” said Marena Works, director of the Carson City HHS department.“This grant will build on opportunities to work together,” she added, providing a chance to improve public health performance and capacity.The announcement noted that, in recent years, funding for public health has dropped significantly despite the mission of public health departments expanding, which prompted 16 projects in 14 states to receive funding through the Center for Public Sharing Health Services.That center is a national initiative managed by the Kansas Health Institute with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
