Veterans invited to learn about benefits and services

Veterans and military personnel are invited to meet with a state Veterans Service officer this week to learn about benefits and services for which they may be eligible.

Representatives from the Nevada Office of Veterans Services Veterans Outreach "ROVER" program will be available in Yerington from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Yerington Senior Center, 117 Tilson Way; and in Carson City from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Veterans and family members can make an appointment to meet with a Veterans Service officer to discuss their benefits. Walk-in appointments also will be accepted and the staff will stay at the location as long as necessary to visit with veterans who arrive.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment, contact Pamela Roberts at 775-688-1653, ext. 6 or Barbara at 775-321-4880.

Veterans are advised to bring a copy of their DD-214 discharge document and/or current correspondence about VA claims. If the claim involves dependents, veterans should bring marriage and/or birth certificates as well as dependents' social security numbers.

Business owners, city officials and others are invited to post flyers to help spread the word about the outreach meetings. Fliers can be downloaded from the Nevada Office of Veterans Services website at www.veterans.nv.gov. Click on the "Services and Benefits" tab to find the ROVER schedule page.

The ROVER Program is funded by donations to the Veterans Gift Account that is supported by the Nevada veterans license plate program.
