Coupa's entry into the northern Nevada market may be modest at this time, but Chief Financial Officer Mark Verbeck says the company's rapid growth curve could lead to a rapid expansion of its Reno-based staff.
The San Mateo Calif.-based maker of software that helps businesses simplify purchasing decisions announced its entry into northern Nevada during last week's annual Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada update luncheon.
The company grew from 56 to 150 employees in 2012, Verbeck says. That kind of growth could quickly propel additional hiring at the company's offices at Mountainview Corporate Center near Kietzke Lane and Neil Road.
Coupa plans to move much of its accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to Reno. Currently, the office employs two people who began working in early January.
"We only got the green light for the project in December," Verbeck notes.
Verbeck says Reno was a good fit for Coupa's back-office functions because of the region's high-caliber workforce that's in close proximity to Coupa's Bay Area headquarters.
"For us it is really about the talent of the employees. We are growing really quickly, and we need computer-savvy people who have accounting knowledge and have done customer support-type jobs," he says. "Our whole support infrastructure is growing. The whole company is doubling every year, so this could be a pretty meaningful-size operation."
Founded in 2006, Coupa counts business heavyweights such as Subway, Reebok and Toyota among its clientele.
