Dancing with the Carson City stars set for March 9

Since the summer of 2005, the television competition, "Dancing With The Stars" has captured a national audience with celebrities and professional dancers pairing up for competition and accolades.

The capital city will host its own version of the show when the Western Nevada College chapter of the National Student Nurses Association presents "Dancing With The Stars: Carson City Edition" at 7 p.m. March 9, at the Carson High School gymnasium.

Among the local stars expected to throw down are Sheriff Kenny Furlong, District Attorney Neil Rombardo, U.S. Sen. Dean Heller's wife Lynne, City Supervisor/Adele's co-owner Karen Abowd, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center nursing management's Shelby Hunt, CTRMC CEO Ed Epperson, Carson High School assistant football coach Keko Vega, Miss Carson City - Vannessa Macias, Carson High School language arts teacher Phillip Brady, WNC nursing professor Sherry Neil-Urban, City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover, and Coldwell Banker agent Garrett Lepire.

They will all compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy along with experienced dancers Sarah Guzman,-WNC students Courtney Edwards and Alexandera Clark, Michelle Michelsen, Mark Johnson, Armondo Nevarez, Desiree McKean, Tiffany Hopkins, Adam Hopkins, Joann Grace, Earl Case and Ivan Ochoa.

Others expected to participate as commentators are Mayor Bob Crowell and former mayor Marv Teixeira; announcer Stacy Giomi, Carson City fire chief; and judges Stephanie Arrigotti and Gina Davis, and Erin Basta.

Tickets can be purchased at WNC in the Joe Dini Library and Student Center, room 105A, on weekdays. Tickets also are available at Coldwell Banker, Thurman's Ranch House, The Purple Avocado and Yaple'sBallroom.
