Douglas stand-off ends peacefully

A Johnson Lane woman surrendered peacefully after a nearly five-hour stand-off in the northern Carson Valley neighborhood on Monday.

The woman was taken into custody at about 6 p.m. after crisis negotiators responded to an address on Squires Street at about 1:16 p.m.

Douglas County deputies responded to a report of an armed woman with suicidal tendencies standing in the yard of the home. As they arrived she entered the home's garage and locked the door.

Other occupants of the home were evacuated, along with neighbors before members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Crisis Negotiation Team arrived to talk her out of the garage, spokesman Sgt. Pat Brooks said.

"No one has been injured in this incident."

Squires and Chiquita were blocked at the east and west ends by deputies.

Douglas County Special Weapons and Tactics Team members were staged at the site in case they were needed.

The first signs she'd surrendered were when firefighters were released from the scene at 6:10 p.m. Neighbors were given the all-clear about 20 minutes later.
