AARP offers tax help

AARP Tax-Aide is available to provide free income tax preparation service for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60 and older. Free volunteer-run Tax-Aide sites are at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville; Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive; FISH, 138 E. Long St.; Lyon County Library, 20 Nevin Way, Yerington; Silver Springs Chamber of Commerce, 1190 Highway 50, Silver Springs; and the Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road, Dayton.Taxpayers do not have to be AARP members or be any specific age or income level to obtain service. Taxpayers are advised to bring last year’s tax return, all W-2s from employers, any 1099 statements from banks, pension plans or brokerage firms, W-2Gs from gambling winnings, home mortgage interest statements, paid property tax bills, medical expenses, educational expenses, child or dependent care expenses, receipts for charitable contributions of cash, check, credit card or other than cash and any other items or information necessary to support income or expenses such as alimony paid or received.Most of our AARP Tax-Aide sites begin operation during the first week of February and continue until April 15.For more information, call 1-888-687-2277 for more information on other tax sites.
