EmpRes Healthcare of Vancouver, Wash., last week widened its footprint in the Carson City and Carson Valley region with the acquisition of No Place Like Home Senior Care in Gardnerville.
The personal-care company was acquired from Rick Ackerson, who founded it in 2010. Terms weren’t disclosed.
About 60 employees of the Gardnerville company are expected to make the transition to the company’s new ownership, said Steven Stradley, vice president of human resources of EmpRes Healthcare.
Brent Weil, chief operations officer for EmpRes, said the company looks to grow the number of clients served by the personal-care company, but the change should be transparent to current clients and their families.
The acquisition marks an important new strategic direction for EmpRes, which operates about 45 licensed nursing homes and assisted living communities in California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
EmpRes, a 100-percent employee-owned company, also operates Ormsby Post Acute Rehab in Carson City, Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carson City and Gardnerville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Douglas County. In Ely, the company owns White Pine Care Center.
No Place Like Home Senior Care marks the company’s first foray into personal care and home health care, said Steven Stradley, vice president of human resources of the company.
He said the company is looking to further expand its presence in personal-care and home-healthcare markets, both to diversify its business and to provide a wider portfolio of services to its clients.
Ackerson, who is trained as a firefighter and paramedic, launched No Place Like Home Senior Care in 2010. He was inspired to launch the company after seeing the health struggles of his grandmother during her last years of life.
No Place Like Home Senior Care provides services ranging from light housekeeping to companionship and transportation that allow seniors to remain in their homes as long as possible.
Ackerson said he decided to sell the company because EmpRes has the resources to expand its services and base of clients.
