Adult day care center doubles size

When Jeff and Amy Dold launched More to Life LLC in 2010, they weren’t sure there was a market for an adult day health center in Sparks.

There was.

Three years after opening the center during the depths of the recession, More to Life is nearing completion of a major expansion.

The company is doubling its facility at 1963 E. Prater Way — completing improvements in a 2,000-square-foot space that was an unfinished shell — and it’s won the approval of state regulators to increase its licensed capacity to 70 from the previous limit of 40.

Jeff Dold says the center has seen steady growth in attendance as it serves frail or impaired adults with Alzheimer’s and other dementia as well as conditions ranging from traumatic brain injuries to multiple sclerosis.

Families often use the services of the adult day care center, which average about $55 a day, as part of a continuum of care, Dold says. Along with use of More to Life during the daytime hours, for instance, a family may enlist more expensive in-home care for evening and nighttime hours.

A mechanical engineer who made a big career switch rather than move his family in 2010, Dold says the past three years have taught him that More to Life serves entire families, not just the individuals entrusted to its care.

“Families are the other half of our care,” he says.

With that in mind, the recently completed addition is largely devoted to meeting spaces that are used for monthly training seminars for caregivers as well as training for the center’s 10-employee staff.

A hair and beauty salon to serve participants also was included in the project.
