Renovation that came to a screeching halt with the onset of the financial crisis in 2008 is getting back on track at the 400-room Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.
The all-suites hotel owned by Ken Corporation Ltd., a Japanese company, is renovating rooms on the property’s second through fifth floors.
That’s a continuation of stalled renovation work that updated suites on the sixth through ninth floors in the spring and summer of 2008, said Bill Cottrill, director of sales at the hotel. Before the renovation could be completed, the financial crisis and recession caused Ken Corporation to slow its spending.
Cottrill said the work includes remodeled bathrooms, new furniture and television sets and updated carpets and wallpaper in rooms on the lower floors.
At the same time, the hotelier is upgrading bathrooms and television sets on the upper floors. TKen Corporation said in March that it expects to spend $5 million to $7 million on renovation of the property this year. Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel was branded as Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe until April 1, when Ken Corporation decided to operate the property independent of the flag of a major hotel brand.
PHR Management, an affiliate of Ken Corporation, now manages the hotel that opened 22 years ago.
