Final voting begins for Nevada tourism treasures

The final round of voting is underway for Nevada’s tourism treasures.

The “Discover Your Nevada” campaign began July 3, with people nominating their favorite Nevada attractions. Contenders have been whittled down to two in each of six tourism territories.

A final round of online voting began Monday and runs through Aug. 2.

Finalists are:

Reno-Tahoe Territory: Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park; Wilbur D. May Center.

Las Vegas Territory: The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery; Nevada State Museum.

Cowboy Country: Safe Haven Rescue Zoo; The Star Hotel Basque Restaurant.

Indian Territory: Lost City Museum; Pyramid Lake.

Pony Express Territory: Great Basin National Park; Nevada Northern Railway.

Nevada Silver Trails: Belmont Courthouse; Pahrump Valley Winery.

The campaign sponsored by the Nevada Commission on Tourism is designed to educate Nevadans about places to see in their own state and encourage them to get out and explore what the Silver State has to offer.

“Our state is so varied and vast that we could not possibly have a single ‘treasure’ that represents the entire state, so we highlight one iconic attraction in each territory that the voters decide is their top treasure,” said Claudia Vecchio, director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.

Each treasure will receive a commemorative plaque and be featured in future tourism promotions.

It’s the second year the commission has sponsored the campaign.
