Girl rescued in Reno in sex trafficking sting

RENO — A 14-year-old girl has been rescued in Reno following a two-day law enforcement sting focusing on sex trafficking.

Reno police says the girl from Sacramento, Calif., was found Friday night following an operation targeting an Internet website posting for prostitution.

Police say two people from Carmichael, Calif., were arrested on charges related to sexually exploiting the child. Shanequa Charles of Carmichael, Calif., was being held without bail on multiple charges. Jamourian Charles was being held in $22,500 bail.

Police say 12 adults also were cited or arrested for solicitation of prostitution and provided aide by victim advocates.

“Operation Cross Country” was a nationwide effort involving federal, state and local law enforcement agents.

The FBI says 105 children forced into prostitution were rescued and 150 people arrested.
