Proscenium Players is presenting Shakespeare’s comedy “Taming of the Shrew” at the Brewery Arts Center this month.

Directed by Jeff Fast and performed in Shakespearean language and style, the play tells the story of a rich merchant who won’t allow his daughter to marry until her shrewish older sister does. The main plot is the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments — the “taming” — until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina’s more desirable sister, Bianca.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. June 14, 15, 21 and 22 and 2 p.m. June 16 and 23. Tickets are $18 general admission and $15 for Proscenium Players members, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased by calling 775-883-1976 or by visiting www.breweryarts.org.
