Public can join in paying homage to U.S. flag in Assembly Chambers

The public is invited to join the armed forces in paying homage to the U.S. flag and celebrating the Army’s 238th birthday during the annual Nevada National Guard Flag Day ceremony.

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Capitol Assembly Chambers.

Command Sgt. Major Daryl Keithley is set to deliver the Army’s birthday message.

He has served as Nevada’s state command sergeant major since August 2009 and is responsible for advising the adjutant general on the enlisted affairs. Since Sept. 11, 2001, Keithley has completed multiple deployments in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Master Sgt. Harry Schroeder of the 757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is set to give the Flag Day address.

He recently served as the first sergeant for the 593rd Transportation Company during its nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The event is free and open to the public.
