Sparks man allegedly hoarded live, dead pets

SPARKS (AP) — A man accused of hoarding 58 live pets and just as many dead ones at his Sparks home is facing four counts of animal cruelty.

Washoe County Animal Services director Barry Brode says neighbors reported smelling something dead at a home on Merchant Street on Wednesday morning.

Sparks police responded, and officials say they found 43 rabbits, nine cats and six dogs at Ronnie Bandoni’s home. Brode says some were in very poor condition.

Officers counted 51 dead rabbits, two dead cats, four dead guinea pigs and a dead duck.

The surviving animals were taken by animal control officers to be checked out by a veterinarian and sheltered.

The 63-year-old Bandoni is being held at the Washoe County jail.
