Adjusted jobless rate for 2012 is 11.1%

Adjustments to firm up Nevada’s estimated unemployment rate for 2012 reduced it a half-percent, to 11.1 percent, Employment Security officials say.Bill Anderson, chief economist for the Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation, said that means the state gained 18,100 jobs over the year, about double the 9,300 estimated.Nevada’s employment and labor force numbers are estimated each month, but those estimates are revised after the end of the calendar year, when more complete information is available.Anderson said the numbers show that the private sector actually grew by 19,400 jobs, while the public sector lost 1,300 jobs. The 11.1 percent rate is a full 2 percent lower than in 2011. The state’s jobless rate peaked at 14 percent in October 2010.
