Carson man found guilty of trafficking more than a pound of methamphetamine

A Carson City man faces life in prison after a jury convicted him of methamphetamine trafficking.

Jose Garcia-Gaona, 36, was charged with trafficking after a tow yard worker, who was asked to look in Garcia-Gaona’s impounded Honda Accord for a prescription, found instead a pound of methamphetamine and two baggies of cocaine.

Jurors found Garcia-Gaona guilty in Carson City District Court on Thursday of one count of trafficking, which carries a sentence of up to life in prison, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Garcia-Gaona could be paroled after 12 years if he’s sentenced to life. Each count of possession of a controlled substance charge carries a 1-4 year possible sentence.

He is set to be sentenced 9 a.m. May 6.
