Michael Raymond Borda of Palos Verdes, CA passed away March 18, at the age of 45 surrounded by his loving family. Even though he could no longer fight the cancer his incredible spirit never gave up.
Born in Carson City in 1967, Mike graduated from Carson City High School in 1986, then went on to play football first at foothill college, then at Sacramento State as a wide receiver. After graduating with a BA in political science in 1990 he worked at the Sacramento County Probation Department supervising juveniles. In 1998 he moved to the South Bay where he worked at Santek components in computer-component sales and together with his brothers launched B-cubed a family-operated logistics and shipping company.
Mike loved a lot of things, but sports was one of his favorite pastimes. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers he was also a devoted coach who was involved in his kids sports teams. He was a founder of the Sierra Nevada Classic Foundation and recently co-produced a documentary with his brothers called Death, Taxes and the Sierra Nevada Classic.
Mike is survived by the loves of his life, his wife, Tammy and his beautiful children, Mazie, Rhett, and Van; his parents, Cindy Byington and John Borda; his siblings and their spouses, Andrea (Steve) Stanford, Billy (Melissa) Borda, Johnny (Jenny) Borda; his sister and brother-in-law, Renee and Jody Bradshaw; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Grider; 12 nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Mike, many cousins, aunts, uncles and devoted friends, and last but not least his beloved German Shepherd, Sammy.
A memorial mass in celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church, 1900 S. Prospect, Redondo Beach, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Education Trust For the Children of Michael R. Borda (2909 Oregon Court, #C-6, Torrance, CA 90503) or the Memorial Fund for Michael Borda to cure pancreatic cancer.
