Senator Square: School year’s end brings tests, book returns and planning

School is winding down. AP testing was conducted during the past two weeks and our students were thrilled to be done with those tests, but we’re moving into the final stages of school. That means more tests, finals, are just around the corner. The last day of school for students is June 7. Graduation for seniors will be 10 a.m. June 8 at the football field and track complex.

Good luck to our students in the final weeks of school.

And teachers, well, hang on because summer is just around the corner.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week’s senior spotlight is our current senior class president, Jaime King. Jaime has a weighted grade-point average of 4.17 and is enrolled in several advanced-placement classes. In addition to being an integral part of the student leadership at Carson High School, Jaime has played on the girls varsity soccer team for the past two years. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Gay-Straight Alliance.

Jaime is an avid runner and has participated in several 5K runs both as a runner and a volunteer. She has volunteered with the Carson City Circles Initiative as well as helped with the Bordewich-Bray playground construction.

Jamie has received a scholarship to attend the University of New Mexico next year, where she plans to pursue a degree in forensic psychology. She hopes to study abroad and would love to learn Chinese. We will miss Jaime’s lovely smile next year but wish her the best of luck as she follows her dreams.

Angila Golik is a government and sociology teacher at Carson High School and a member of Senator Pride.
