Nevada lawmakers want to have the pieces in place should voters approve an intermediate appellate court.
The state Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 463 on Tuesday. It now goes to the Assembly.
The bill lays out the process for how appellate judges would be initially appointed by the governor for two years. After that judges would be elected to six-year terms.
Appellate judges would get an annual salary of $165,000.
Senate Joint Resolution 14 also has been approved by the Senate and is now in the Assembly where passage is expected.
The resolution amending the state constitution to establish an appeals court would then go to voters on next year’s ballot.
