Letter from Columbian Exposition (Part III): I think I got fooled on a Turkish rug which I brought back to my hotel. It proved to be filled with the genuine Algerian bedbugs, hidden away so deftly between the meshes of the cloth as to escape the scrutiny of the Custom House officers. The Illinois souvenir factories have been running to their fullest capacity all summer on Arabian spoons, East Indian door mats, Japanese coca-nut-husk underwear, Easter bonnets of hand-painted gourds from South Africa, Berlin beer mugs of Milwaukee pressed clay and a thousand other little curiosities which catch the eye of the visiting hobo.
