Pair arrested on felony meth, other counts

Two men were arrested Friday on suspicion of methamphetamine-related crimes.

According to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office:

A deputy saw a white Chevy van with expired California plates headed west on U.S. Highway 50 near Sunrise Road at 4:53 p.m. As the deputy tried to pull the van over, the van’s driver quickly turned into a mobile home park. The deputy followed the van into the park and noted the men were reaching into their pockets as he approached; he drew his gun in case they were reaching for weapons.

William Dale French, 42, of Dayton told the deputy he had been a passenger in the van and was just getting a ride. Both he and Keith Wayne Furr, 51, acknowledged that they didn’t know anyone at the mobile home park.

A drug dog search at first revealed a small amount of marijuana and cash near where both men were standing. French said it was Furr’s.

The deputy learned Furr had a clause for a previous crime allowing law enforcement to search him. The dog then searched the van and turned up a hypodermic device, a small amount of meth and an open container of alcohol.

Each man said the drugs belonged to the other. Furr was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, destruction of evidence, possession of marijuana, no valid driver’s license, expired registration, possession of a hypodermic device, no proof of current insurance, violation of conditions, open alcohol container and fictitious registration. Total bail was set at $15,550.

French was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, destruction of evidence, possession of marijuana, possession of a hypodermic device and open container of alcohol. Total bail was set at $6,600.
