Edward Brown was the stabbor and Frank Lamont the stabbee in an encounter in Eureka. Mr. Brown inserted the big blade of his pocket knife into the larger muscles of his antagonists dorsal extremity. Some blood flowed for a mere vulgar fraction of injury. Brown was arrested.

“Grizzly Dan,” the ex-convict, will be tried today for petty larceny. Those who know the poor wretch believe that he is a fitter subject for the insane asylum than a prisoner.

The announcement in the Appeal last evening on a change of management has resulted in the general sentiment of starting a new evening paper from one end of town to the other. We wonder if the people actually realize what a really independent newspaper in this city would mean. It certainly would be well worth reading.

A young man, raised in Carson City and who attended local schools, is the recipient of the Purple Heart award for action in the South Pacific. Jimmy Robertson holds a rating as radioman 3c in the United States Navy.

Mrs. Charles Hansford of Plymouth, England recently concluded a six-week stay in Carson City where she was reunited with her brother William Maddaford for the first time in 51 years.

Dr. Katrina Van Patten today announced the start of her optometrist practice in Carson City. She said she will be associated with her father, Dr. Willaim G. Van Patten.
