College students sometimes can’t get the immediate help they are seeking away from the classroom. Western Nevada College has made learning assistance for students more accessible and convenient with Brainfuse, an online tutoring and live help network, available at no cost.

Through state funding from the Library Services and Technology Act, the Nevada Legislature and the Institute for Museum and Library Services, online tutoring help in a variety of subjects is only a few keystrokes away.

Tutoring assistance is available for math, writing, reading, anatomy and physiology, biology, organic chemistry, physics, economics, finance, accounting, statistics and Spanish.

Other tools available to students through Brainfuse are the ability to submit writing for any class to the online writing lab, receive personalized test preparation in core subject areas, form online study groups, and create online flashcards, quizzes and games to reinforce learning.

Personal Attention to Students Earns Kudos

WNC has been recognized by Online College database for its personal attention to students. WNC was ranked No. 2 in the state for its reported student-teacher ratio of 19-1.

“The colleges and universities that made our list offer excellent academic programs tailored for students who love personalized attention,” Online College Database noted on its website page honoring colleges, universities and online colleges in Nevada.

Only Great Basin College in Elko had a lower student-teacher ratio among Nevada colleges at 16-1.

“With thousands of coed (students) flooding college campuses each fall, it’s important for students to find schools where they can easily converse with professors and peers, where even introductory lecture classes make individual attention a priority,” said Maggie Evans McGuinness, managing director for communications and partnerships at College Database.

Vendors Invited for Fall Craft Fair at WNC

Diverse offerings will include scarves, soaps, baby quilts, jewelry, gift baskets, glassware, paintings, pottery and more.

Students, Visitors Learn About Manufacturing jobs

A broad variety of local students, parents, and community members toured WNC technical and manufacturing programs on Thursday as part of the region’s celebration of National Manufacturing Day.

College faculty members offered brief presentations, and students demonstrated the machinery that is teaching them job skills for future employment.
