Steam train rides set this weekend

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St., will hold a run of the famous V&T Steam Locomotive No. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Normally operated only on summer holiday weekends and for the Santa train, the historic locomotive will give visitors a rare opportunity to ride the rails and photograph the equipment in fall splendor.

“After canceling Labor Day trains because of unhealthy air from the big forest fire in California, we are so happy to be able to offer this special run for the community. We hope rail enthusiasts from all over will get a chance to experience this kind of history in action,” said Frank Ackerman, director of the museum.

Visitors are invited inside to explore the museum’s interpretive center where the story is told of how the railroads were built and their role in the state’s development in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum store offers literature and railroad merchandise.

Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for members and children ages 4-11. For information, call 775-687-6953.
