Reno gets past Carson High 23-17; Spring Creek defeats Dayton 30-16

Reno High has defeated the Carson Senators, 23-17.

The Carson Senators drove from their own 20-yard line to Reno’s 9 before settling for a field goal and taking a 3-0 lead. They upped the lead to 10-0 when Joey Thurman caught an 81-yard touchdown pass.

Reno answered to make it 10-7, then took a 14-10 lead. A late Reno field goal by Oliver Graybar pushed the lead to 17-10 just before halftime.

Carson moved the ball 53 yards in four plays, culminating with a 5-yard touchdown run by Nevin Elliott, to tie with Reno at 17-17 with 9:28 left in the third quarter.

With 7 minutes left, Reno took a 23-17 lead on a 6-yard pass from Matt Young to Anjah Anderson.

Dayton High also fell after taking a 16-0 lead. Spring Creek scored 30 unanswered points to win going away.

Dayton took at 6-0 lead when Spring Creek couldn’t handle the opening kickoff and added a field goal for a 9-0 lead. It led 16-0 on Jonathan Joyner’s 25-yard interception return.

Spring Creek scored on a 30-yard run to make the score 16-8, then scored on a 72-yard, eight-play drive late in the third quarter to make it 16-14. It pulled ahead of Dayton 22-16 with 6:52 to play. Dayton was unable to get a punt off, giving Spring Creek good field position.

Spring Creek soon scored another touchdown, taking a 30-16 lead with less than two minutes to go.
