The Salvation Army of Carson City’s back to school Apple Tree program collected 467 backpacks as well as school supplies for needy children from Carson City and Douglas County school districts and Silver State Charter School.

The Salvation Army had an overwhelming amount of requests from families in need this year and was thankful for the community’s support and partnership with the school districts to distribute the donations through local schools.

Backpacks and school supplies can be picked up by those in need at their local school in Douglas County and Carson City and at Silver State Charter School. Donations can also be picked up by calling the McKinney-Vento program at 775-283-1526.

The Salvation Army of Carson City provides services to Carson City and Douglas County for more than 18,000 people each year helping with school supplies, emergency food, utilities, holiday assistance, summer day camp, before school care and summer camp.

For more information about the drive, call Lt. Mark Cyr at 775-887-9120.
