Winter storm warning issued for Tuesday afternoon

A winter storm warning for above 7,000 feet is in effect between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm could bring up to 2 feet of snow with locally higher amounts west of Highway 89.

The snow level will drop to 6,500 feet during heavier bands. While no snow is forecast for Carson Valley this week, more than a quarter inch of rain could fall during Tuesday and Wednesday.

Most of the storms’ fury was spent on the west slope.

While a foot of snow fell at Donner Summit by Saturday morning, while Heavenly Ski Resort measured closer to an inch.

By Monday morning, the resort had reported 5 inches of snow total from the weekend.

The weekend’s storms left about a a tenth of an inch of rain in Carson City, while a fifth of an inch of rain was reported in Genoa.

That moisture contributed to the heavy fog that filled Eagle, Carson and Antelope valleys on Monday morning.

By lunchtime Monday, the fog had burned off.
