Carson City’s Silver State Stars take on Shakespeare

Silver State Charter Schools’ theater group, The Silver State Stars, will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Thursday through Saturday in the Performing Arts Center.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” tells the story of four young lovers and a troupe of actors who get mixed up with a band of mischievous fairies. Comedy ensues in this classic tale, edited to be more accessible for beginning actors and theatergoers.

This special production features the classic Shakespeare story told with a unique Steampunk twist. Love is in the air as three-stories-in-one unfold around a wedding celebration — the adventures of four young Athenian lovers, the comical capers of an actors troupe, and the mischievous pranks of woodland fairies.

Starring in Silver State Stars’ production are Silver State students Michael Anthony Frenchu and Sara Meierdierck, as the King and Queen of the Fairies; and Chelsea Kurash, Kendall Carothers, and Zoe Pope-Stewart as three of the four star-crossed lovers. Also joining the cast are a collection of talents from our community including Joseph Campbell as Nick Bottom, Kaeli Biggin as the brooding Hermia, and many more.

“It has been incredible working with these young people and watching them grow throughout the rehearsal process,” said Andie Anderson, the new drama Instructor at Silver State Charter Schools and director of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “I am so proud of the hard work and dedication each one of them has put in to this project, and I can’t wait for audiences to witness their accomplishments.”

Anderson is a Carson City native and veteran of the local theater scene. She’s also serving as the artistic director of Youth Theatre Carson City through the Carson City Community Center, and is a working actor, recently being seen as Eponine in the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Production of “Les Miserables.”

Performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with an additional 2 p.m. showing on Saturday in the Performing Arts Center at Silver State Charter Schools, 900 Mallory Way.

Tickets are $10 at the door, and seating is limited. For more information, contact the Silver State Charter Schools Drama Department at 775-883-7900 ext. 113 or visit www.sshs.org.
