A Christmas concert next week will kick off the holiday season at Ormsby Post Acute Rehab.

“We’ve always done a Christmas dinner, but it wasn’t as festive as we wanted it to be,” said Jillian Speegle, outreach coordinator at the rehab facility. “So I thought, why not do something different? Something fun.”

The concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 will be for residents and their families and also will be open to the public. It will feature the Carson City Symphony Chorus.

Speegle said it also will be a chance for people to check out the renovations at the rehab center, beginning with the newly decorated lobby. The facility has new flooring, along with new furnishings and paint.

The highlight is a new physical therapy room, Speegle said.

“The old one was much smaller and this has more up-to-date equipment,” she said.

An ice cream parlor also was added, where ice cream is served two days a week.

“It’s a nice ice breaker, especially if there are young kids coming to visit grandma or grandpa,” Speegle said. “Everyone loves ice cream.”

It also remains open for residents to sit and each lunch during the week.

Speegle said the center is hoping to be a more inviting place, and to reduced the apprehension for patients. While there are long-term residents, she said, the rehabilitation center is focused on healing.

“This is a step in the right direction to going home from the hospital,” she said. “Our job is to get you home.”

Anyone interested in attending the concert should RSVP by calling (775) 841-4646.
