Carson man arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property and felony possession of a controlled substance.

According to the man’s arrest report:

A deputy with the Special Enforcement Team was conducting a business check at a Dotty’s on East William Street shortly before 9 p.m. He saw a young-looking man and asked if he had any identification. The man, Jeffery Christopher Haugen, said he didn’t have it and didn’t know his Social Security number.

The deputy thought Haugen might flee and put him in handcuffs, and dispatchers advised the deputy about the warrants.

Haugen acknowledged having “some stuff” in his right front pocket, and the deputy found 15 balloons of suspected heroin in a cigarette wrapper, as well as a bag containing several pieces of jewelry.

At the Carson City Jail, a deputy found $1,120 in Haugen’s breast pocket. The arresting deputy learned that another deputy was with the victims of a burglary.

He took a photo of the jewelry from Haugen’s pocket, and the victims identified it as theirs.

Haugen was arrested at 8:51 p.m. on the felony counts, as well as on two contempt-of-court warrants. Total bail was set at $9,200.
