John Stewart, under sentence of death and confined to the Ormsby County jail, was informed of the decision of the Supreme Court Sunday last. He is of a very despondent mind with a hopeless hope of commutation and there will be great exertions made by friends and his poor mother to have him rescued form the gallows. But the sinking heart of a doomed man is his, and greatly is he to be pitied.

One of the Remington guns — which came to the Carson Guard — was finished in a much superior style of workmanship than the rest, and when the guns were distributed, Superintendent Crawford was the lucky man to get it.

Word from Battle Mountain received in Reno yesterday that windows and bar paraphernalia were demolished and twenty or more persons were badly frightened when one of 47 sticks of dynamite placed under the floor of the Nelson saloon at Hilltop exploded. To the fact the sticks were frozen for the reason several patrons owe their escape from injury or death.

The Carson Brewing Company in this city sold 3,831 cases of bottled and canned beer and 13,219 gallons of keg beer during 1943. The total amount of case beer sold in Nevada was 1,120,340. The Carson dealer was one of the smaller distributors on the list of 45.

Mrs. Rosella Wilde’s Willard Lane home was the meeting place last Tuesday night for the La Sierra Homemaker’s Club. Members opened the meeting by answering to roll call with a tip on furniture.

Thirty high school students received orientation on a program for senior citizens and volunteer youth at the Carson City Senior Center. Project SAVY is a model home chore project co-sponsored by the State Division for Aging Services.
