Cheers & Kudos: Thanks for support at shelter fundraiser

On Feb. 7, Carson Animal Services Initiative held its Woofs, Wine and Whiskers fundraiser to raise money to help Carson City build a new animal shelter. We are grateful for the tremendous community support, both from people buying tickets to our event, as well as businesses and individuals donating their time, auction items, beer and wine. A fundraiser cannot be successful without community support, and Carson City and surrounding counties all pitched in to make the evening extraordinary!

A special thank you to Wirtz Beverage Nevada, Southern Beverage and Spirits, Casino Fandango, Capital Beverages, Swill Coffee and Wine, and Sonoma Wine Company. Between donations and making available the opportunity to buy wine at cost, we were able to provide a nice selection for our fundraiser.

Additionally, a huge thank you to Sheriff Kenny Furlong. A finer Master of Ceremonies cannot be found! And to CW and Mr. Spoons, your music created a delightful atmosphere. We appreciate you spending your evening with us!

Thank you to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Casino Fandango, Carson Nugget, Award Zone, Silver Oak and Eagle Valley golf courses, Carson Fly Fishing Club, Roger Peka, Ilona Strull, Susan Strating, Cecile and David Critchfield, Ed Murray, Jim Trout, Jason and Lisa Koop, Ronni Hannaman of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, and the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce for the incredibly generous donations. Your commitment to the needs of homeless animals is truly appreciated.

Most importantly, I would like to thank CASI’s amazing volunteers! Patti Stewart, our wine tasting committee chairwoman, organized the dedicated and passionate CASI volunteers to ensure a joyful evening for all.

It is with heartfelt thanks I offer kudos to our supportive community, our generous businesses, and our dedicated volunteers. Together we will build a much-needed new animal shelter.

Thanks to care facility for treatment of mom

I would like to publicly thank the owners and staff of Ormsby Heights Residential Care — two ten bed homes here in Carson City. When I was looking for a place that would take care of my mother who had lost her ability to use her legs, I eventually found Ormsby Heights Residential Care and it was a “yes” to every need. Although her stay was a short four months, I knew she was getting the care she needed that I was unable to give. In the early morning hours of Feb. 5, her pain was so great they had to send her to the hospital where she passed away that afternoon; her children and niece were there to say goodbye.

So, thank you, Ormsby Heights Residential Care, for taking good care of my mother during her final days.
