Successful affair: There was a large attendance at the leap year ball. At the Grand March, the spectators agreed that such a dazzling array of masculine loveliness had never been massed under one roof. Some of the costumes indulged in by the gentlemen were combinations of exquisite color effects ... Gov. Adams wore a black coat lined with white silk, vest to match. Jude Leonard wore a dark colored coat split at the tail and cut away on the side, ruffled shirt front, sky blue neck tie. Judge Hawley — Sanco Panza coat open in front with white vest. He is a good polka dancer. James Crawford — wide pants, Hennesey and Co.’s corsets, high collar and open bosom ...

Stirring up interest in the Centennial: Gov. Sawyer’s office issued a mock “call to arms” asking Nevadans to join him in the repelling an attack from the state’s western neighbor, California. In the make-believe dispute, the heads of the adjoining states are each acquiring part of the land of the other.
