A Californian and two area Nevada residents were selected to receive the 2014 Andy Aldax Carson River Watershed Award, the Carson Water Subconservancy District announced Monday.
Named as recipients were Judy Wickwire of Alpine County in northern California, the late Mahmood “Moody” Azad of Washoe Valley, and his widow, Genie Azad. The award is for exemplary service in conservation and protection of the Carson River Watershed.
Wickwire was called “an active and tireless volunteer” in the river’s upper watershed region. The Azads employed their professional skills toward protection, enhancement and the health of the watershed, according to the news release on the recognition issued by the subconservancy.
Azad was an engineer and worked more than 25 years in water resources, much of that in the watershed; his spouse is “a passionate environmental leader with over 17 years of experience in Nevada and northern California,” the subconservancy’s release said.
A presentation ceremony is set for Wednesday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in Room 1214 of the Nevada State Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St., in Carson City.
